Significance of Bhai Dooj
Bhai Dooj is the most significant festival in Hindu cosmology. It is celebrated in the Kartik month of the Hindu lunar calendar. There is a prominent legend linked with this festival. Once Lord Sun’s wife Chaya gave birth to Yamuna and Yamraj. Yamraj became the god of death, and he got distant from her sister, the Yamuna. After marriage, Yamuna insisted that Yamraj come to her place and have food, but Yamraj denied it. One day, Yamraj discovered that he was left with less time, so he decided to have food at Yamuna’s place. Yamuna arranged a grand feast for her brother, and seeing this, Yamraj got pleased and asked her to demand anything. Then, goddess Yamuna demanded that every year the Kartik paksha will be a day devoted to brothers and sisters. Since then, Bhai Dooj has been observed with excellent arrangements and joy.
