About mighty Lord Krishna
Lord Krishna is a supreme avatar of mighty Lord Vishnu. He is the most revered and cherished godhead in Hindu cosmology. The mighty Lord is the god of love, affection and compassion. He brings waves of euphoria and happiness to his devotee’s life. The supreme divinity is known to be the most lovable and childish deity among all the godheads.
Significance of Krishna Janmashtami
Krishna Janamashtmi is one of the most adorable and rejuvenating festivals celebrated in the Hindu culture. This festival is of unmatched significance in Northern India especially in Mathura and Vrindavan as these places discover important places in Lord Krishna’s life. The auspicious festival is celebrated on the 8th day of the dark fortnight in the Bhadrapada maas or month of the Hindu lunar calendar.
Krishna Janamashtmi is also known as Krishna paksha. Lord Krishna was born to Vasudeva and Devki. Lord Krishna is the eighth incarnation of supreme Lord Vishnu. There was a prophecy that this avatar of Lord Vishnu will kill Kansa who was an evil and maternal uncle of Lord Krishna. Kansa tried his best to kill Krishna but failed as Vasudeva crossed the Yamuna river and dropped him at Nand and Yashoda’s place. King Nanad and Yashoda performed Krishna’s upbringing. Later, Lord Krishna killed Kansa bringing his evil motives to a brutal end.

How to celebrate Krishna Janamashtmi?
Krishna Janamashtmi is observed by keeping a fast dedicated to mighty Krishna. Devotees take only phalahari diet and open fast at night after seeing the moon or when Lord Krishna’s birth takes place in Mathura and Vrindavan. Worshippers chant glorious tales, mantras or slokas to revere mighty Krishna. There are grand religious processions including bhajan nights and Dahi handi programs across India.
