Sakat Chauth

Sakat Chauth- A glorious festivity devoted to Lord Ganesha
Sakat Chauth is a beautiful occasion dedicated to the commanding Lord Ganesha or Ganapati. Lord Ganesha is the supreme godhead in Hindu cosmology. He is cherished for his knowledge, proficiency and ability to remove obstacles from a devotee's life.

Significance of Sakat Chauth
Sakat Chauth is one of the most beautiful events in the Magha month of the Hindu lunar calendar. The legend associated with Sakat Chauth includes a potter from King Harishchandra’s kingdom. One day the potter made many pots, but they were not in good shape. He then consulted a priest to resolve this issue. Otherwise, he would be in great trouble. The priest advised the potter to keep utensils in water and devote sincere worship to a child. The potter followed the orders and then discovered that all his problems vanished in a go. Since then, this festival has been celebrated by women to bring glorious blessings of Lord Ganesha and safety for their children. It protects children from all the problems, enemies and evil energies.

How to celebrate Sakat Chauth?
On Sakat Chauth, women observe a fast to obtain a healthy, long and fulfilling life for their children. They wake up early and take a bath and then proceed towards observing the fast. It is a nirjala fast in which women do not take food or water. After the moonrise, Parana or breaking of fast, is performed by devoting unique offerings and water to the moon. Chanting of Ganapati mantras and slokas is also an integral festival ritual.
